Fixed Mindset Vs Growth Mindset

In the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, there are a lot of free courses that you can learn on many platforms such as Coursera, Udemy, edX, Futurelearn, etc. The first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that I’ve enrolled is Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential. I learn so much from this course and it’s very engaging when you know what’s the content of the course.

Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential Certificate

I will spoil a little bit from what I’ve remembered. In this course, you will learn about how your brain works from neurons, brain behavior, podomoro techniques, mindset, etc. The explanation is very clear and easy to understand. But there are two things that I remembered so clearly. It’s a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset. So what’s that?

Fixed Mindset is a way of thinking that believes their intelligence, talents, and personalities are fixed traits that cannot grow. For example, when someone sees millionaires, they will think that it’s a privilege since their parents have a good business. For simply they are giving up on improving themself and have a narrow mind. But it’s different for Growth Mindset.

Growth Mindset is a way of thinking that believes even if they struggle with certain skills, their abilities aren’t set in stone. For example, when someone sees millionaires, they will think about how he/she can do that until becomes a millionaire. They will try to think of all possible ways to find a way and learn how to become like them. Most of them are evolving time by time and are more successful than people who have Fixed Mindset because they can adapt to changes over time. People with Growth Mindset usually put a lot of effort when making a change.

In this era, technology has grown so fast and many people can’t follow it. That’s why we need to have a Growth Mindset so we can adapt to the change. No matter if you are still young or already older, there is nothing to say it’s too late because in this life we’re learning every time and everywhere.

Hopefully, this article can help you to know a little bit part of the Growth Mindset and apply it to your real life.
